Best Mask Designs in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask has an interesting 3-day time cycle, which sometimes makes it complicated to complete certain parts, and players have to manage their schedule to progress. Masks are a crucial element in the game, as they are used in gameplay, and you can’t progress without some of them. Each mask has a purpose, or some have major abilities you can use, and here are the seven best mask designs in Majora’s Mask.
Majora’s Mask

This is the mask that starts the chain of events leading to Link’s adventure in Termina. The mask stands out thanks to its heart-shaped appearance, bulging eyes, bright colors, unique markings, and spikes. There is an eerie vibe around the mask even without knowing the story behind it. The sinister appearance is a crucial element that makes it both mysterious and intimidating.
Majora’s Mask has one of the best designs among all masks, but it can’t be equipped by Link or collected and added to his inventory. Instead, the mask is worn by the Skull Kid for most of the story. The mask gives the antagonist destructive powers but also corrupts its wearer, so the Skull Kid is the one being used by it. This makes it one of the most unique in the game, even though Link himself can’t try it out.
Fierce Deity’s Mask

The Fierce Deity’s Mask is significantly intimidating, but what happens to Link after wearing it is even more imposing. The mask has white hair, distinct markings on its face, and Link turns into a similar form after equipping it. This new tall form doesn’t just change Link’s appearance, but also turns him into a powerful being who can take on Majora.
Finding the mask is also unique, as Link has to give away his 20 non-transformation masks to be awarded the Fierce Deity’s Mask. Fierce Deity’s Mask can only be equipped during boss fights, and Link can’t wear it during normal gameplay without using mods. The mask grants Link massive power, and his sword can also fire beams at the cost of magic.
Gibdo Mask

Majora’s Mask has no shortage of creepy elements, and the Gibdo Mask may be the creepiest one in the game. Its appearance is similar to the mummified face of a Gibdo, and even the game describes it as having previously been the face of Pamela’s father. This associates the mask with Ikana Canyon and the Hylian turning into a Gibdo hybrid before you saved him.
The Gibdo Mask is essential for Link, as it causes the Gibdos to consider Link as one of them and stops them from attacking him. ReDeads also don’t get aggressive toward Link; instead, they dance when the mask is equipped. This is also a mask that is acquired by using the Song of Healing on a person, but doesn’t transform Link’s appearance.
Garo’s Mask

The Garo’s Mask gives off a ninja-like appearance and is essential to gain access to Ikana Canyon, as the Poe Collector will unblock the path when you have it equipped. The mask doesn’t change Link’s appearance, but it can summon Garos. The Garo warriors quickly recognize Link as an imposter and start a duel.
Link can learn secrets and get hints after defeating the summoned Garo warriors. The mask also causes the usually aggressive ReDeads to dance similar to the Gibdo mask. Link can obtain the mask by defeating the Gorman Brothers in their horse race at Gorman Track.
Captain’s Hat

The Captain’s Hat has a skeletal look and is linked to Captain Keeta. Its appearance may not be as significant as what the mask represents. Link needs the mask to command the Stalchidren, and the mask doesn’t transform Link, but gives him the respect of Captain Keeta and the authority of his subordinates.
The main purpose of the Captain’s Hat is to be able to command the Stalchidren, but obtaining it also allows Link to put Captain Keeta to rest. Link must keep up with Captain Keeta in a race, where he will need to take on Stalchidren and then defeat the giant skeleton in a fight. Defeating Captain Keeta allows Link to access the chest surrounded by fire and obtain the mask.
Stone Mask

The Stone Mask is the complete opposite of Majora’s Mask, as it’s plain instead of something that can stand out. This isn’t an oversight; instead, the mask wants you to become invisible. Wearing the mask gives Link stone-like properties, which makes him walk past enemies without having to fight. The game links the masks to Shiro, a wounded soldier, who was ignored for so long that he became invisible.
Ironically, finding Shiro requires Link to use the Lens of Truth, which signifies that Shiro has almost left the world and was just waiting for someone to set him free. The mask’s ability allows Link to sneak past most enemies, guards, and other characters without fear of being caught or attacked.
Mask of Truth

The Mask of Truth has one of the best and most aesthetically pleasing designs in Majora’s Mask, as it features a large Sheikah Eye symbol on the front. This symbol gives the mask a mysterious look, while also making its connection to the Sheikah tribe obvious. The mask is also the only direct reference to the Sheikah in Majora’s Mask.
The Mask of Truth allows Link to communicate with Gossip Stones and understand what animals are thinking. Understanding animals is especially useful during the Doggy Racetrack, where Link can bet based on their thoughts. Link can obtain the mask as a reward for lifting the curse from the Cursed Rich Man by defeating all 30 Gold Skulltulas in the Swamp Spider House.
