The Best Games Coming in September 2026
September 2026 is a stacked month for games, with several sequels, remakes, and remasters set to release. Several new games, such as Marvelâs Wolverine, and other titles for several genres, including dark fantasy, action, and more, are also planned for a September release. While fans will have their plate full with the number of games that will release, it is understandable if some are unsure about which games to try first or which title is worth buying. Here are the five best games that are coming in September 2026 that you must try, and what makes them stand out from others.
The Blood of Dawnwalker

The Blood of Dawnwalker will release on September 3 and is an open-world dark-fantasy action RPG. It’s set in 14th-century Europe, and players will take control of Coen, a man who turns into a Dawnwalker and gains vampiric abilities. Players can play as a human during the day and use Coenâs vampire side once dusk falls. This gives players a different way of playing, as the main character is a hybrid.Â
One of the most unique elements about The Blood of Dawnwalker is that it has a 30-day time limit. This mechanic forces Coen to complete his mission within 30 days, as the time affects the gameplay, so players will have to prioritize which quests and activities they do. RPGs typically give players a lot of leeway, but The Blood of Dawnwalker is essentially going to give players the choice on what they do and skip to meet the time constraints.Â
Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Onimusha: Way of the Sword will release on September 4 and is a third-person action game in which you play as the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. The main characterâs mission requires him to fight the invading monstrous Genma, and he uses his sword in combat. Miyamoto Musashi also has a mystical artifact that allows him to fight Genma, and the game mixes historical Japanese locations with a dark-fantasy theme.
Onimusha is returning with a new game after more than 2 decades, and this mainline title is built entirely around swordplay. This sets it apart from most action games, as it isnât a normal beat-em-up game. The dark theme also makes the game more interesting, as players will see historical locations combined with supernatural elements while defeating Genma and taking Miyamoto Musashi further in his quest.
Marvel’s Wolverine

Marvel’s Wolverine releases on September 15 and is a single-player game, in which you play as the titular Wolverine. The main character can use his famous claws for brutal melee kills, or other skills to stalk, ambush, and attack enemies directly. The game isnât open-world like Marvelâs Spider-Man 2, instead prioritizing a more linear narrative.
Itâs a good thing that Marvel has separated Wolverine from the Spider-Man game, as it gives players something different, rather than making a Spidey with adamantium claws title. The game focuses on Wolverineâs rage, with it even making his attacks more powerful. Marvelâs Wolverine is also Insomniacâs next major title after Marvelâs Spider-Man 2, and features a fan-favorite character.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is a turn-based RPG, similar to other titles in the series, and will be released on September 17. The gameâs narrative revolves around the Heroic Games, an in-game tournament where fighters are competing to gain the ability to have a wish granted. There are four major protagonists, Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda, and players can switch between their stories while playing.Â
The four-character format makes the game interesting, as you donât have to replay to see another characterâs life, and can instead switch while playing. This means you can gain a different perspective of the tournament based on the character you switch to, and can also see how each character develops as the game progresses.
CONTROL Resonant

CONTROL Resonant will release on September 24 and is an action-adventure RPG and a direct sequel to Control. In this game, players will control Dylan Faden, who is the brother of Jesse Faden. The game takes place in Manhattan, which is under attack by supernatural forces. Dylan uses his supernatural abilities and shifting weapon to battle. CONTROL Resonant prioritizes melee combat more than the original game, and players can also explore to find side quests and other unique encounters.Â
CONTROL Resonantâs biggest change from the original title is that it doesnât focus only on supernatural abilities, as there is a stronger melee combat system, and Dylanâs shapeshifting weapon is also designed for melee attacks. This changes how the gameplay works, as melee combat requires Dylan to fight in close quarters. The change makes the sequel different from the original, with the core premise being similar to Control.
