Best Cards for Each Character in Slay the Spire 2

Slay the Spire 2 lets players utilize five different characters with varying strengths and weaknesses. Three of these characters return from the first game, while two are new. Naturally, the best cards that you can use for every Slay the Spire 2 character are different, since they complement different playing styles.

From Ironclad to Necrobinder, this article aims to highlight the best cards for all five Slay the Spire 2 characters. Of course, we’ll also expand on why they’re the perfect fit so you can decide whether you want to implement them in your next builds.

The Ironclad

The Ironclad Slay the Spire 2

Ironclad is easily the most beginner-friendly character. His high starting HP and overall sustainability make him an excellent character to use strength and self-damage cards instead of complicating things. He’s perfect if you just want to run a quick session on your Steam Deck.

Stoke

One of Ironclad’s strongest cards in decks that are built around Exhaust. It refills your hand with fresh options while triggering Exhaust payoffs, making it a natural fit for anything designed to remove cards from play repeatedly. The more your deck is set up to benefit from Exhaust, the more Stoke pulls its weight.

Bloodletting

Now a Common, Bloodletting trades 3 HP for two Energy, a cheap way to fuel explosive turns and long combos. At 0 Energy, it’s an instant boost that opens up plays otherwise out of reach.

Demon Form

The classic Strength engine remains one of Ironclad’s most straightforward ways to scale in longer fights. Gaining Strength every turn turns attacks like Twin Strike and Whirlwind into serious threats, ideal for fights that run long enough for its scaling to take effect.

The Silent

The Silent Slay the Spire 2

Since Silent’s gameplay style usually revolves around utilizing poison and combos to deal massive damage, building poison stacks or repeated small attacks could be a good idea. You want to plan out ahead of time with Silent instead of just going guns blazing.

Noxious Fumes

Passive Poison application gives Silent steady, reliable damage every turn, freeing up cards for defense, draw, and setup instead. That cushion is what lets Catalyst and Silent’s other tools take over later.

Catalyst

Doubling an enemy’s existing Poison stack makes Catalyst one of Silent’s biggest damage spikes. Save it for a heavily poisoned target, and it can end a fight quickly.

Well-Laid Plans

Gives Silent more control over her hand, letting her hold attacks, Skills, and combo pieces until the moment they matter instead of playing them on autopilot. A strong consistency tool for any deck built around timing, especially when a turn hinges on saving specific cards for a discard or Sly payoff rather than dumping your hand as it comes.

The Defect

The Defect Slay the Spire 2

Defect can channel all sorts of orb types, making him one of the more versatile characters in the game. Using the right cards can help you manage offense and defense to turn Defect into a magical powerhouse.

Chill

Cheap and efficient against groups, Chill fits neatly into Frost- and Focus-based decks. Its 0-Energy cost lets it channel multiple Frost Orbs when several enemies are present, and Focus turns those Orbs into extra Block.

Echo Form

Repeating the first card played each turn is one of Defect’s best scaling tools, and it only gets stronger once Focus and Orb generation are online, letting an already-strong deck double down turn after turn.

Glacier

One of the best defensive cards for a Frost-and-Focus build: immediate Block for the current turn, plus Frost Orbs for the long haul. Pair it with Focus, and the value only grows as fights get harder.

The Necrobinder

The Necrobinder Slay the Spire 2

It isn’t a stretch to call Necrobinder the strongest character in Slay the Spire 2. With her skeleton companion in the mix, it’s a good idea to ensure she has enough energy in the late stage of any fight.

Demesne

A key engine piece for decks that want more Energy and cards late in a fight. Recurring Energy and extra draw every turn make it one of Necrobinder’s most reliable long-game tools, giving the deck a steady stream of resources instead of relying on lucky draws.

Capture Spirit

A strong Soul generator that also reduces an enemy’s HP, giving Necrobinder both resources and pressure against tougher targets. Those Souls feed the wider engine behind Osty and Doom effects.

End of Days

The answer to a crowded room. Its Energy cost is steep, but spreading Doom across every enemy sets up multiple executions at once. Enemies whose Doom meets or exceeds their HP are killed when the Doom check occurs, making this a strong tool against a weakened group.

The Regent

The Regent Slay the Spire 2

Regent’s playing style is all about managing resources so that they can come into play later in a fight. Cards that let this character increase her long-term damage can take her potential to the next level.

Furnace

One of the best ways to build around Regent’s Forge mechanic, steadily strengthening Sovereign Blade without extra setup. Given time to build, that scaling can turn Sovereign Blade into a serious boss-killer.

Bombardment

Once upgraded, Bombardment becomes a long-term damage engine, returning from the Exhaust pile on its own and repeatedly pressuring enemies after the initial 3-Energy investment. The upfront cost is steep, but the payoff builds over time the longer a fight drags on.

Void Form

Turns a strong setup into an explosive follow-up by making the first two cards played on subsequent turns free. It’s best once your deck has expensive cards worth casting for free, letting Regent squeeze maximum value from its Energy.
