Top 5 Tales Games That Deserve the Remaster Treatment
During the latest Nintendo Direct, Bandai Namco announced a new re-release of a Tales game that’s in development for all platforms. The title in question, Tales of Eternia Remastered, is an updated version of the 2000 JRPG of the same name. This re-release, which is slated to come out in October of this year, will mark its debut on modern consoles. Up until now, Tales of Eternia (also known as Tales of Destiny 2 in the West) was stuck on the original PlayStation, as well as the PlayStation Portable.
As many Tales fans may know by now, Tales of Eternia is not the first game in the series to get the remaster treatment. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise in 2025, Bandai Namco revealed that it would work on a remaster project, in order to bring the older games in the series to modern platforms. The company had released remasters of previous Tales titles in the past, such as Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Symphonia, but with this project, it confirmed that it would develop them at a faster rate.
The Tales Franchise is Getting Tons of New Remasters

Tales of Graces f was the first game to get remastered as part of this 30th anniversary project. It came out on all platforms in early 2025, and it was followed up by Tales of Xillia Remastered later that year. Back in February of 2026, Bandai Namco re-released Tales of Berseria on all platforms, including Xbox and Nintendo Switch for the first time. As mentioned above, it has since confirmed that Tales of Eternia will be the next project in the series to get the remaster treatment.
Tales of Eternia is, so far, the only 2D-era Tales games to come to modern platforms. Since Bandai Namco has shown a willingness to bring the older, more dated games to current-gen devices, itās got me thinking: what other games in the Tales series should the company tackle next? Here are some of the games that I think they should remaster:
1. Tales of Destiny and Tales of Destiny 2

I know this is kind of cheating, since itās technically two games, but while weāre on the topic of Tales of Eternia, I think itās worth bringing up the real Tales of Destiny 2. Yes, for those who donāt know, there was a sequel to 1997ās Tales of Destiny that came out exclusively in Japan. Tales of Destiny 2 never got an English translation, and itās been stuck on the PS2 and the PSP to this day. A modern port of it should come with full localization support, as well as quality-of-life enhancements for it and its predecessor.
While I would personally prefer Bandai Namco to bundle the two games together, the chances of it doing so seem rather slim, given how the company handled the Tales of Xillia remaster. The sequel for that game still has yet to get a re-release.
2. Tales of Rebirth

Speaking of Japanese-exclusive video games, Tales of Rebirth is another game in the Tales franchise that never made its way to the West. This title is a 2D action game, much like Tales of Destiny and Tales of Eternia, and it takes place in a fantasy world populated by humans and beasts. The gameās story, which follows a human called Veigue Lungberg, focuses primarily on racial and ethnic conflicts, so itās unique for the series in that sense.
Tales of Rebirth sold quite well when it was first released in Japan in 2004, so itās somewhat shocking that it has yet to get an official English translation and worldwide release.
3. Tales of Innocence

I know what youāre thinking: another Japanese-exclusive video game? Well, yes, Iām going to include yet another one.
Tales of Innocence is the ninth mainline title in the Tales series, and like Tales of Destiny and Tales of Rebirth before it, it didnāt get an official English localization since it never made its way outside of the Land of the Rising Sun.
Tales of Innocence is unique in comparison to other Tales games as it has two considerably different versions, both of which were made for handhelds. The original edition of the game came out on the Nintendo DS in 2007, and it was 3D in nature, albeit to a limited extent. Tales of Innocence was eventually remade for the PlayStation Vita in 2012, and it received a complete overhaul in terms of gameplay and graphics, placing it more in line with recent titles in the franchise.
A remaster of the PlayStation Vita version of Tales of Innocence would make a lot of sense, especially since itās similar to the other titles that have been remastered already.
4. Tales of Phantasia

If Bandai Namco is going to do remasters to celebrate the Tales seriesā 30th anniversary, then why doesnāt it bring back the one game in the franchise that started it all, Tales of Phantasia? This game came out on the Super Famicom in 1995, but it didnāt come to Europe and North America until it received a Game Boy Advance port in 2006.
Tales of Phantasia is a pretty dated video game, and though it has received several remakes, including one on the PlayStation Portable, a remaster of the game would suffice to make it accessible to a wider audience. Bandai Namco should throw in a port of Tales of Phantasia: Narakiri Dungeon X, while itās at it, too.
5. Tales of the Abyss

If thereās one game in the series that fans have begged for a remaster the most, itās without a doubt Tales of the Abyss. This title, which takes place on a planet called Auldrant, stars the well-known protagonist Luke fon Fabre on his quest to discover the truth regarding the circumstances of his mysterious birth.
Tales of the Abyss is one of the best-selling games in the Tales franchise, and it even received an anime adaptation a few years after its release. Although Tales of the Abyss originally debuted as a PS2 exclusive in 2005, a modified version of the game eventually released on Nintendo 3DS in 2011. This game has a lot of diehard fans, so it should be a no-brainer for Bandai Namco to port it to modern platforms eventually.
