Star Fox 64 Medal Requirements
Players need to shoot down a specific amount of enemies on each planet to earn medals in Star Fox 64. This varies between planets, with some requiring just over 100, while others need up to 300 to snag the medal. Furthermore, you can go to other planets on different playthroughs to get the corresponding medals there. So you don’t have to worry about getting them all in one streak. If you are unsure of the Hit Score, it’s the blue number that counts up with each enemy destroyed. It’s in the top left of the HUD; more specifically, it’s just under the health bar. It’s best to always keep bombs handy to take out large groups of enemies and ensure you have your lasers upgraded. A lot of the game is about memorization to get enough enemies destroyed. Therefore, don’t be afraid to do more than one playthrough. With your shots being unlimited, each time you see an enemy, start blasting. Additionally, when you beat the final boss of a stage, you will also get extra added to your Hit Score.

What Do Medals Reward You in Star Fox 64?
Earning medals on every stage in the Standard Mode will unlock various goodies, including Expert Mode, Sound Test, and multiplayer unlocks. The latter being the use of the Landmaster and Pilot Mode in versus. Expert Mode can be toggled by hovering over “Main Game” and selecting left or right, turning into a harder difficulty. Along with the game being more difficult, Fox will wear sunglasses, take more damage, and more enemies will spawn. Overall, it provides more of a challenge to test all players. If you are looking to earn medals in the Expert Mode, you can do so, and it’s the same Hit Scores as the standard mode.
As a cosmetic change, each of the planets in the game will have medals present beside them. Therefore, letting you know of your accomplishments and saves you from needing to do it again.
