Previewing A24’s Upcoming Elden Ring Adaptation
In a collaboration between Bandai-Namco and film studio A24, the highly acclaimed action-role playing fantasy game Elden Ring is set to be adapted to the big screen, and will be released in theatres March 3, 2028.
Directed by Alex Garland (who has stated that he is a big fan of the game), the Elden Ring adaptation will be the most ambitious and expensive project from A24 to date. It is set to be created under the guidance of FromSoftware’s Director and Elden Ring creator Hidetaka Miyazaki, however, there is little known about what the film will actually look like other than it will be based on a story written by George R.R. Martin.
This last month, a YouTuber under the name UnBoxPHD managed to film some clips of the film in production, showing what appears to be a bustling market scene where there are no distinguishable characters that are linked to the original game.
In a second video uploaded to the channel, you can see elaborately dressed townsfolk hurling rotten vegetables and food scraps at none other than the Loathsome Dungeater, who is being executed for his crimes. These clips could indicate that we may be seeing a pre-shattering timeline or a flashback as we see Queen Marika parading through what we can assume is Leyndell. The costume design in both of these clips are incredible and there is a real sense of attention to detail and world building.
A month prior to these leaks, a TikTok user by THROXTV published photos of a highly detailed statue of Queen Marika within a ruined church (possibly the Church of Marika) and a group of pylons which look very similar to the ones that people are hung from in Limgrave.
