Games to Play While You Wait for GTA 6
Grand Theft Auto 6 will definitely be the biggest launch of the year, especially with how long it has been since GTA 5 came out. However, there are still some ways to go, and not everyone has the patience to just wait for the game to release. Fortunately, some games can give a similar experience while you wait for GTA 6.
We’re about to go through some of the best games that you should play while you wait for GTA 6. These include those who have clearly been inspired by the GTA series, as well as those who add a twist that Rockstar hasn’t ever introduced before.
Cyberpunk 2077 (Ultimate Edition)
Cyberpunk 2077 was the most anticipated game when it came out, though the release version left much to be desired. Fortunately, with enough updates, it has become the experience that CD Projekt Red promised fans. The game gives players a beautiful area to explore in Night City. This city is the closest modern alternative to GTA’s trademark open world goodness.
Whether it’s driving, shooting, crime, or even multiple quests that different NPCs assign to you, Cyberpunk 2077 has it all. While both series definitely have their differing strong points, Cyberpunk 2077 is a must-play if you’re craving some crime-filled goodness.
Red Dead Redemption 2
If it’s been a while since you played a game that Rockstar developed, then it may be a good idea to give Red Dead Redemption 2 a shot. This was the last proper game that Rockstar developed, taking players to the post-Wild West, when cowboys and outlaws are trying to find their footing in a world filled with sheriffs and law.
Arthur Morgan is considered one of the best Rockstar protagonists, and rightfully so. His story is excellent, and while swapping out sports cars for modest horses may be a bit of a culture shock for some, it doesn’t take long to get used to it. Red Dead Redemption 2 is Rockstar at its peak, and the general hope is that GTA 6 can compete with it.
Watch Dogs 2
Released by Ubisoft, the Watch Dogs series was originally intended to take the GTA formula to a new direction. While it succeeded in that, it also created a beloved hacking-centered game series in the process. Watch Dogs 2 encourages players to get creative instead of using weapons to deal with situations. This can be controlling cameras, manipulating electronics, or anything of that nature.
The game has a creative open world that’s filled with all sorts of vehicles to steal and missions to complete. It’s one of the strongest alternatives to the GTA series, especially because of the technological twist that Watch Dogs 2 offers.
Mafia: Definitive Edition
It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the Mafia series was the closest thing to a real GTA competitor. At least for a time. The series has largely slowed down on releasing its games. But Mafia: Definitive Edition is the perfect game to play if you’re a fan of GTA’s crime stories more than its open world.
Mafia doesn’t really deliver on a stacked open world, but everything else is great. You can drive classic cars and explore a beautiful recreation of the original Mafia game. The sandbox-oriented gameplay lets Mafia: Definitive Edition focus more on the story, and it definitely delivers on that front.
Sleeping Dogs
Sleeping Dogs is one of the most beloved urban-style open-world games ever made, and it’s clear to see why. Players fill the shoes of Wei Shen as he infiltrates Hong Kong’s dangerous Triad gangs. He comes armed with all sorts of weapons and some fighting skills that would put any GTA protagonist to shame.
You can chain together kicks, punches, and counters to deliver a satisfying beatdown. You can also take advantage of the environment to deal insane damage. Sleeping Dogs has it all. The open-world crime setting is different from GTA. This gives it a unique identity that should keep you busy while you wait for GTA 6.
