Deadlock’s latest update has completely changed the game.
Valve’s newest, if you know you know, MOBA Deadlock has quietly been disrupting the gaming landscape. As of the 22nd of May, the game has faced another series of small(ish) reworks that have completely changed the game.
One of the biggest changes is to the Soul Urn. If you are unfamiliar with Deadlock and the mechanics of the game, the Soul Urn is a large deposit of souls (the main currency in Deadlock) that players can pick up and deposit to gain a huge leverage over the enemy team. Players on either team could take the Soul Urn after it spawns and deposit it across the other side of the map. This was also dependent on each team’s performance in the game, with the team that is doing less favourably having the Urn spawn closer to their base to give them a chance to break even. Soul Runs took a lot of time, however and with a single light melee, the enemy could steal the Soul Urn out of a player’s hands and deposit it for themselves. In the most recent update, this entire objective has been reworked, making it so the Soul Urn is now depositable in the centre of the map instead of either side and can now also be contested by the enemy team if hit with a heavy melee whilst in its countdown phase after being deposited. This means that Soul Urn runs will be far more significant to the core gameplay of Deadlock, with a larger emphasis on team fights over the Urn. In addition to this, some characters can now use their abilities when transporting the Urn, making the objective more aggressive and competitive.
Another significant update is to Midboss, the tentacle-like creature that spawns underneath the centre of the map and can be killed to claim the Rejuvinator (a respawn token for each team member of the team that destroys it). Initially, this boss would only spawn 15 minutes into the game, but as of the latest update, it now spawns immediately. This now means that the Midboss is an immediate threat to both teams, adding another objective into the start of the game that would not have been accounted for until around 15 or 20 minutes into the match.
In this recent update, there were also a handful of nerfs and buffs to both characters and items and thankfully, a Doorman nerf that was desperately needed. On the whole, this newest Deadlock update has definitely been one of the most radical, so it would definitely be a great chance to check out the game if you haven’t already!
